About the community group/organisation/individual 

For more than 40 years, Southland Riding for the Disabled volunteers have been providing  a place where Southlanders of all ages can experience horse riding as a form of therapy to help improve their lives, whether it is physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. 

At present, 40 riders aged between four and 20 years were using its facilities. 

What the grant went towards 

Southland Riding for the Disabled received a grant of $15,000 towards the wages of the administrator officer and horse care officer roles for a period of 12 months. 

The Foundation has provided regular support of the organisation since 2007, totalling $92,400. 

What the grant means to the community group/organisation 

“It makes a huge difference,” Southland Riding for the Disabled president Alice Pottinger said. 

“The support from the community and the ILT Foundation means we can continue to operate and give our riders the therapeutic riding they need, and they love.”
