Support for those with head injuries ongoing
15 February, 2019
About the organisation
Head Injury Society of Southland is a standalone non-profit organisation, which comes under the umbrella of Brain Injury New Zealand.
It supports 156 clients throughout Southland, about 130 of which are based in Invercargill.
The society provides education sessions for workplaces and community groups on how to avoid head injuries and understand more about head injuries. Staff also work with agencies which provide care to people with head injuries.
Other services provided by the society include a monthly support group for families and carers and people with head injuries, advocacy for clients and families and helping them access funding support.
What the grant went towards
The Head Injury Society received a grant of $8000 from the ILT Foundation towards the society’s annual operating costs.
What the grant means to the organisation/community group
“[The support] is amazing,” Head Injury Society of Southland field officer Miranda Kennedy said.
“It enables us to continue to provide the service we want to provide for the ever-growing number of Southland families affected by head injuries.”
